why would they do that?

by Ariana Stuhaan

This is terrible and needs to stop NOW!!! God created these gentle giants to roam free on the plain and have fresh air, not to be sold as nail polish and make-up! we have enough of that stuff already! they should make this a illegal! no animal shall be violated in any matter! i strongly disagree about this! this needs to stop! not eventually, not later, not soon, NOW!! that's when it need to happen!

In my opinion,

As a animal science college student, I would like to think that I have been presented the facts about horse slaughter. Horse slaughter is not immoral. How is slaughter different from euthanasia? Either way you get a dead horse. The difference is that one leaves you with a product that is worth some money. The other leaves you with a bill for the vet and a backhoe. Since horse slaughter has been banned there have been far more cases of neglect becuase old horses past their prime are essentially worthless. So... Now we must deal with the fear of the word 'slaughter'. I admit, there are some plants and producers with poor practices, but these are the only ones to catch press. If you watch a video of a beef slaughter house, you will notice that at a good one, the cattle are calm, healthy, and die rather peacefully. Why wouldn't horses be the same way?

Who's going to pay for the horses?

The problem is that there are too many horses for them to run free. The land can't support even the number of mustangs that exist today, and all the rescues are extremely full and many can't afford the bill. i hate to see horses killed like this, but i've seen the abandonment neglect and abuse that is happening because of the closing of the slaughter houses. If people are going to keep them closed, there needs to be stricter regulations on breeding and those who are closing the slaughter houses need to pick up the bill for the huge number of unwanted horses that exist today.
