When are you ready to own your own horse?

by Hannah
(Lloydminster)

I am 12 years old and I love horses. I know lots about them and i go to a horse riding camp right now. But i don't know if i'm ready to own my own horse. When did you know that you were ready to handle your own horse. In my family we have lots of pets that i help take care of everyday but i don't know if i'm ready.

Answer: I've had horses since I was 11 years old. I took care of them myself. It just depends on how bad you want one. If you are willing to spend the time that it takes to own a horse then your ready. But be warned, it takes a huge commitment to own a horse. No matter what is happening, that horse still has to be fed. He still has to be groomed and taken care of. Horses get sick and have to have their feet trimmed every 3 months. You have to buy feed and lots of other things. Horses are expensive, so it's something that you don't want to just run out and buy on impulse.

Horses
by: Abbi

Hey my name is abbi!

I have two horses of my own right now and leasing another one. I have them both at my house and I pay for everything. Food, vet, farrier, dewormer, shows everything. It is not as easy as you think. If you get a horse you have to really comit your time to them! They are not like a dog or a cat. They are an 1000 pound animal that needs to be feed twice a day brushed groomed watered checked on all the time. We spend $300 on the two that are at my house a week. And the other one $100. They are very very expensive.
If you get a horse just make sure that of have the time and money to take care of them!

I wish you the best of luck!

Abbi!
