Training

by Haley Rauch
(Bolivar, Missouri, U.S.)

When you want to start training, remember it is never to early to start. We started training early while our filly was small enough to handle. She's way more gentle then our gelding we started training at 2. We started training the filly at 1 1/2. 6 months is a big difference.

the younger the better!!!!
by: Anonymous

I not only have spent 10yrs starting colts for people, but I also worked closely w/a breeder for several years. We actually halter trained foals asap. The more desensitizing the better! We usually have them saddling and standing tied by 6months...doing this, I NEVER got a bucking 2yrold. They are very docile and quiet and used to all the fuss. My own just turned yearling, saddles, stands tied for hours, LOVES to be desensitized, and loves any new challenge. I can lean on him and move all over him. And HE IS A STUD!
