Yes it is horrible what these animals have to go through for slaughter, but what is the difference between a horse being slaughtered and a cow? You people need to pull your head out of your ass and look at things clearly! Because we can't slaughter horses in the U.S. the people who make a living out of training and selling horses are having a hard time making a profit. 6 years ago a good working horse would sell for about 6 or $7000 now your are lucky if you can get $1500. With this ban of horse slaughter many jobs were lost too, you disagree with all these businesses cutting jobs because of the economy, ya'll did the same thing to those people. I think most of you have no clue what you are talking about because you have not seen the rancher's or cowboy's side of this. Just come down to Texas and see what we think about ya'lls stupid ban.

Your spelling is as is your mentality. Horses, cows, pigs, chickens, ...... all are being treated inhumanely. However, of them all, horses are the only one that people have adopted as pets.

For all you Peta lovers. Inspectors are a pain in the butt but they keep the animals safe. Yes there are still butt holes who don't care but those are the people you should be trying to stop. Horses are livestock so get it through your thick skulls. My real question is why are people trying to stop the abuse to animals when so many children or elderly people in nursing homes are being abused and neglected? Animals are not people though they deserve a good life. But people still deserve better

I personally feel that if it's wrong to slaughter horses then it's wrong to slaughter, chickens, pigs, and cows as well. Saying it's only wrong to slaughter horses is a bit one sided. Horse's may be athletic and smart but all animals have a purpose. No animal is less important than the rest. Either way, the way animals are treated for food, furs, and many other things are just wrong either way. It's not fair to say horses deserve to live and not cows. That's equivilent to saying one race deserves more than the next and that isn't true either. It's also like saying dogs are more important than cats or vice versa. Who decides what animals are more important than the others? Who decides that a turkey is more useful than a chicken? I have a heart but my heart goes out to all slaughtered animals. Matter of fact you should visit www.sfthm.com and see the celebrity activists tab. Persia White is an animal activist for all animals. Very informative interview. I agree with some of the original writer's comments. Although I disagree with the economic reasoning, however true. I don?t think we can put a price on their suffering. Still the ban was meant to help horses but the reality is that it has caused more harm than good. I don?t like killing any animal but, if the focus was placed on more humane slaughter regulations here in the U.S., that would be A LOT better than the long ride to Mexico or slowly STARVING TO DEATH here in the states. People should have their horses taken down humanly, but the fact is that most dont. There is not enough rescue homes for them either.

Also to the other commenters, no we can?t race cattle, they are simply not built for speed and a smooth ride, but anyone who thinks that they are not trainable or caring does not know any cattle very well.

How can you say that slaughtering horses is okay?! Are you insane? I know horses are expensive to maintain, but seriously! How about we take responsibility as PEOPLE to take care of our horses and give them loving homes! I LOVE mare and am scared to death to ever sell her because I don't want someone shipping her down to Mexico and making her into lipstick and European food!!!! We have so many things to eat already why do we need to eat horses??? And this is a capitalist country you can make a business for pretty much anything you want so WHY do you think you need to slaughter horses for your paycheck. Go to college you idiot.

6 to 7 years ago you could buy a good horse because the industry was open!! If you had a clue about horses you would know that the good ones are never killed. The horses that go though the sale are wounded beyond repair or they are mentally not there! When the ANIMAL is in that condition there is nothing anyone can do for it so it might as well be used for something. You think that everything about it is so horrible you should think more about the horses that are brought to the sale barn and can not even walk in the pin or even better see the horses that are LEFT AT THE SALE BARN because no one wants them to the barn own has them put down, many times they out them down ( with out call in the vet to do it!) GET YOUR STUFF STRAIT!!

Alright, so you have said your opinion. Let me open your eyes jackass. Picture this, you cannot speak up for yourself, haven't eaten food or drank water in 4 days, are in a dark, loud, too small of space that you have already broken a leg and slashed open your neck and stomach a few times, along with being unable to breath due to the horrible stench, and hot weather. Next, you are told to move into another crammed space this time with more similar beings who are in the same if not worse condition you are in. If you do not move you are beaten until you do. Finally, you are taken into a place hit in the head, and whether or not you are conscious rung up by a chain after being shackled and your throat is slit. You find it okay if this happens to you? If so than let horses be slaughtered. If you are not okay with this happening to you than maybe you do have a heart, and don't you dare say "Well I'm not a horse" because that is not a solid comeback, it's cowardly. Horses and cows are completely different. Do your research idiot. You can't ride a cow or teach a cow to race, or jump over fences with a human on them. Horses are meant for living, they are athletic, they are healers, and they are our companions that automatically give us their trust and respect. Why in the hell can't we? answer me that you arrogant, uneducated being.

The things horses go threw to get to Canada, Mexico or wherever is horrible and inhumane. They are our friends, our companions. They do not deserve to be beaten into a stuffed trailer with tons of other horses rashing around in there. Then BE SCARED INTO THE KILL PEN WHERE THEY shoot them in the head with something used to kill a cow! Or stabbed in the spine repeatedly. Horses are not beef animals! The things they go threw are TERRIBLE AND EVERYONE SHOULD BE ASHAMED FOR THIS CRUELTY. THE TRANSPORT OF THESE BEAUTIFUL AND INNOCENT HORSES OVER THE BOARDER NEEDS TO STOP. NOW. Obviously this is wrong. They were made to ride. NOT EAT. anyone who supports this really needs to research the horrific facts and KNOW WHAT REALLY HAPPENS. because it isnt humane. AT ALL. I understand that everyone needs to make a living, and I know the economy is tough, but I know for a fact there are options that don't include abusing animals, and supporting their slaughter. Go put in an application at Wal-Mart, buddy. It's PETA, by the way.

No, I'm not pullin my head out of my ass, because it's not in it! Horse slaughter is wrong! Yes, 6 years ago you could gotten $7,000 for a GOOD WORKING HORSE, because that's what it was, not food! Horses are companions and anyone who lost a job in horse slaughter, sorry, but that's not a job!
