My horse keeps kicking the Stable door i can't stop him!

by Emily
(Berkshire)

I have a gelding who i love to bits but the thing is when i take him into the stable,, It not like a proper stable its got a lot of room and no doors, He just keeps kicking the wall and i get shouted at for when he does, its just so annoying.
I'm scared if he's going to make himself lame too!
How can you help this?
i've shouted at him and i smack his leg for when he does it but he just never learns :(
thanks Emily.

Answer If you don't smack and shout and the proper time, your doing no good at all. He has to associate the smack with the bad behavior. When he does it, get you a switch and immediately when he does it, smack him and yell "QUIT". Do this EVERYTIME! If you smack him one time and then let him get away with it the next time, he'll never learn. I'll tell you something else that works also. Get you a little, cheap air soft gun. You know the ones that shoot the little plastic bee bees? Stand 10 or twelve feet away from him, no closer. When he kicks the wall, shoot him in the butt with that and yell "QUIT" at the exact same time. It wont take him long to learn. And before anyone jumps up and accuses me of horse abuse, it doesn't hurt him if your 10 or 12 feet away. I've been shot with them myself and yeah it stings, but it don,t hurt. It wont take him long to learn. I had a problem with my horses sticking there heads through the fence to eat the grass and they just about tore my fence down. I shot them in the butt a couple of times and now if they even act like they want to stick there head through the fence, I just yell "QUIT" and they scatter.
