Kerri

by Kerri
(New York)

I am a tenth grade high school student, in an AP English class, and we are required to write a satiric proposal on something that we truly believe must be amended in this world. I, being both a rider and adopted owner of a rescue horse, Figgy, whom I love very much even though he is long since retired from riding, and an over all animal lover and aspiring veterinarian, am intent on using this opportunity to change something in this world, for those who cannot do so for themselves. I can't say I loved reading this article, to be honest I am sick to my stomach, being reminded yet again of the atrocities of the world we live in, but I truly am inspired even further, my mind fueled by fury, to put a halt to these ghastly actions taken each and every day against those of us who are helpless in a losing battle. I know it is an indescribable feat to think that such an out of control situation could be stopped by one person, but after reading Johnathan Swift's "Modest Proposal", and being aware of the impact it had for human lives, I am only provoked further to achieve this goal I have set. Thank you for making your voice heard, and for the inspiration, and any one else who wishes to join the fight for these incredible animals, we can always use new supporters. I am sixteen years old, and lately, my mind has concluded that I cannot fix everything in this world that I feel must be mended, however, if I, if WE choose one thing to change in our lifetime, to better our world for generations of all species alike, we could say that our lives were not simply statistics in the destruction of this incredible world that we might see flourish again one day. I want this to be that one thing, and I will pursue this passion with the utmost ferocity that my meager mind can materialize. Don't let the millions of lives lost everyday be in vain, or we may very well lose sight of the future of our own species, in the clouds of the ashes of what might have been a beautiful earth.
