While I am not against treating animals unethically, I am for horse slaughter and think it needs to once again be made legal in the United States. The things that need to change about horse slaughter are the rules relating to transfer and slaughter methods. Banning it altogether was not the right answer. Cattle are slaughtered on a daily basis with very strict regulations ensuring that they are calm until the very end (quiet and well lit facilities and banning the use of electric prodders). Why can't this be the same for horses? While I recognize that not all horses sent to slaughter are unwanted, sadly a large number are. It is our responsibility as horse owners to ensure quality breeding and breeding with a purpose.
