Doogle
Well my family had got their first horse for me, Emily, and his name was Dutch. He was so nice and sweet that we had to have another! We went out on a mission to find my mother a horse too, so she could have her dream since she was a little girl come true.
It was a cool Saturday in October and we went looking at an ad for a 9 year old thoroughbred ex-racing gelding for sale for $850. As soon as we set foot on that same ground as him my mother had seen her dream horse, 17 hand tall horse named Doogle.
We rode him and looked at him and he was in desperate need of help, he was skinny and had no more spirit. Doogle got back up to health and everything was fine till April 26th, 2009 when everything took a turn for the worse.
We got a phone call and it was Brandy the barn feeder "Doogle is down again in the pasture! We are walking him right know but you need to get over here now!"
We went over there as fast as we could. We called the vet and told him to hurry quickly that their wasn't much time. He came and took blood and called us back that afternoon and said "I'm sorry but i cant believe he is still alive, he has no white blood cells and has ulcers that where set off by mushrooms... his organs have been twisted up and they have rupshered" it was silent then my mom started crying telling Doogle that everything was going to be okay as he was lying on the ground struggling to fight back...
The doctor came back out that day and my dad has never ever cried in front of anyone and he started balling and so did everyone else because we had decided that the best thing would be to give him the shot that would take away all his pain...
He lives in heaven now and we still cry about him all the time. he is buried at Happy Hills Horse cemetery in Bowie, Texas. Its been hard but no matter what he will never be forgotten.
I don't tell this story much because every time i do i cry like i am right now but i also smile that he no longer hurts:..)
