It Has Its upside, too.

by Shane
(Alabama)

Don't get me wrong, I don't like the thought of any animal being killed at all. The fact is it's the circle of life. People are turning out horses in urban areas. Which is better? A horse being hit by a car and suffering or being knocked out and then killed? They have to put up signs telling people not to turn out horses or leave them tied to posts in places like Bowling Green, KY, at the sale, because people just don't have anymore feed money. Also, you can't get anything out of horses at a sale, unless it has a Congress or World title.

horse slaughter
by: texas2chicks

I had to inform you but horses are not knocked out. There was an undercover news series done on this and it mad me sick. This applies to both horses and cattle. Using undercover camera's they went into the slaughter houses around dallas, texas and showed how they actually slaughter them. they are herded through shoots where they reach the end and a mechanical hammer hits them across to the head just enough to stun to stop them from moving and then they throw a rope around their neck attached to a conveyer belt and they are hung by the neck which goes a few feet into a room where their is someone waiting that takes a large knife and cuts them from their rib cage to their groin. This is all being done while the horse is still conscienous, breathing, hearing and FEELING everything that is going on. This is about as torturous as it gets, like they did to people in rome centuries ago. For one minute, imagine how YOU would feel if someone, hit you over the head enough to stun you for a few seconds so you would not be able to move but were aware of all that was going around you and feel everything and then someone hung you up and took a butcher knife and cut your guts out, well the animal feels the same way. All I can say is you have no business with any animal and you have absolutely no compassion. I you can't have compassion for animal then you truly have not compassion for anything or anyone else and if you think you do then it is false and you are lying to yourself. People like you will never understand to it is actually done to you and then it is too late. Ya'll who think it is human to kill an animal like that have no business on this earth. You repect nothing and if you think you do you are lying to yourself. I hope one day ya'll can feel the same kind of pain.

YOU NEED TO GET YOUR FACTS STRAIT

slaughter is much better than starving to death or having horses turned loose so that we will still kill them...

Circle of life my ass. Horse slaughter is by far One of the inhumane forms of slaughter out there. Most of the times, the horses that you claim are "knocked out" are indeed not. Most of the horses slaughtered are still alive when they are being butchered. There are also many horses that are slaughtered alive in their stalls.

Because horses are head shy/flight animals, they don't "keep their cool" in situations that a cow would be for example. Horse can sense fear, danger, and do not like the smell or aura of death. So, when they are shoved through things called a kill chute, and hung up by their ankles in a slaughterhouse full of the smell of dead horses, they're not so easily stunned so that they can be slaughtered effectively.
If you want more proof that horses are "stunned" when they're being slaughtered, go search for videos of live horse slaughter and see how many are actually asleep before they have their throats slit.

Get your facts straight before you tackle this tender subject.
