I support it and hate it

by Brandi
(Iowa)

I think we actually need horse slaughter back in the united states..i know where i am its impossible to sell horses..our horse market has fallen and now registered foals are being given away.

We need it back..but i want it done in a none-cruel way..not sure if it would be better to just have every horse shot with a caliber as it came in to the processing plant?

People breed horses like crazy..and all they are, are worthless junk foals..with bad bloodlines..no one who wants to compete wants these horses..yeah sure they have good disposition but these people are clogging up the markets.

My family and I used to own a registered appaloosa thoroughbred mare with a nasty attitude..she was lethal. She was one of those horses, that if you didn't watch what you were doing she would kill you. She broke someone's back before we got her. This mare is currently still alive in South Dakota. Those type of horses need to be killed or put down.

Also horses are left to die..starving..being abused..because the horse's owner doesn't care or they don't have the money.

Horse rescues are trying to save as many as they can but I talked to a few rescue owners who won't take horses in that aren't ride-able because those who aren't they can't get rid of.

So whats better? having a horse sent to slaughter or having them starve to death and be abused by their owners? Would you people mind slaughter as much if the horses going to slaughter were transported in huge semi-pulled horse trailers and they were just shot with a caliber or given a shot as they came in?

I think that is why most people hate it..because the way they do it..but honestly we need it back! thank you and have a nice day.

You Still HAVE Slaughter
by: Suzanne Moore

The slaughter option is as viable now as it ever was. Just sell your horse at auction to a "meat man" and he will truck it to Mexico or Canada. Just the same as if you could go to Illinois or Texas.

Of course, all those tales of thousands of unwanted horses are pure pro-slaughter propaganda. A number of horse organizations have done their own investigations, and found these to be fabrications passed along by copy-cat journalists.

Now, about you. If this is the best you can come up with for your horse, once you get this one killed in the most inhumane way possible, please don't ever get another horse. You are not nearly responsible enough to be entrusted with a horse.

You are the ignorant ones
by: Anonymous

you people against slaughter sound like the ignorant ones to me. I hate slaughter, and i would hate for the opening of slaughter plants to result in the mass production of horses for food purposes, but the numbers of unwanted horses has increased dramatically with the closing of the slaughterhouses, and who is going to pick up the bill to care for the unwanted horses? i beleive that YOU should!

I do what i can to help the horses that would go to slaughter. I have a rescue thoroughbred myself, but i have seen the abuse, neglect and abandonment that has arisen because of the closing of the slaughter plants and it would be better for the horses to be able to go to local slaughterhouses instead of being shipped off to Mexico and Canada or being dropped of on the side of the road or in someones backyard.

Heartless

Wow! I bet any horses you've ever owned just love you to death! If that mare was such a piece of garbage, I guess she got the owner she deserved-another piece of garbage! Go buy yourself a heart! Fools like you keep us from winning the respect that our fellow horses deserve!

YES!!!!

You are so right!!!!

Dont reward irresponsible people.

Don't be fooled, the pro-slaughter and over-breeder association want horse slaughter. You can look at there history on donations and funds they set aside to help horse rescues and guess what, there isn't any.

They also say there open to any ideas to help their story of so called unwanted horses. Yet they have done nothing, they won't and don't care too. They said horse slaughter is humane, Yet USDA (FOIA) proves they are a bunch of lairs.

Supporting horse slaughter will only reward these lying irresponsible criminals. It profits foreigners, while they leave the blood and bones of our American Icons.

AQHA and other over-breeders are similar to Hitler; save the purebred and slaughter the rest..

Pro slaughter supporters are backed up by other pro slaughter supporters such as the beef, pork, and poultry industry. Why, because its a slaughter support slaughter industry. Its making them money so they will lie and lie..

There are NOT 100,000 unwanted horses, only unlucky horses to be outbidded from a ignorant kill buyer.

Should horse slaughter be allowed again in the US, I guess we are to believe every unwanted horse will be abolished. No, they will keep on breeding and breeding to fulfill there pockets.

Stopping horse slaughter now will stop there incentives to promote and lie.. Call your elected officials and tell them NOT to listen to these pro slaughter ignorant people. There talking to much bullcrap these days.
