Try half-haults (tighting your hold on the reins and pulling back very slightly) and if you'd rather not be pulling on your horse you could try going against your horse's movement. What I mean by this is if you're walking for example don't let your horse move your hips with his/her movement instead tighten that angle and he should slow down. This works at all gaits with any of the horse's I've ridden.
