how do i get my horse to stop biting?

by rachel
(elgin illinois us)

He trys to bite me when i go to pet him and whem i brush him and when i try to put his halter on.

Answer: The best thing to do is put him in a round pen. Go up to him and pet him, if he tries to bite, make him run. Then let him stop and try again. If he bites again, make his butt run some more. Sooner or later he will get the message. Biting shows a lack of respect. He doesn't look at you as the dominant in the partnership. You need to do some serious groundwork with him asap.
