Today, there are many different horse breeds to choose from. Make sure, when buying a horse, that you are choosing a breed that’s right for you. Some breeds are characterized by preferable traits such size, appearance or temperament. If you are a novice rider, you probably wouldn’t want a high spirited, high strung horse. Selective horse breeding by humans has produced over 100 different breeds of horses. These different breeds are often categorized into 3 broad classes: light horses, heavy horses and ponies. Light horses are considered to be saddle horses which include the Quarter horse, Arabian, Morgan horses and Thoroughbreds. Heavy horses include draft horses and coach horses.
