Horse Slaughter

by Rachel
(Salem, Mo. USA)

I do not like horse slaughter. I hate to think of what those horses go through. However, I think it was extremely unwise for US slaughter plants to be shut down. Not only are horses now being shipped to Mexico in extremely crowded trailers or semis with very little to no food or water on the way down, they are also not treated well at all once they arrive there. The slaughter plants in the US could be watched and the horses for the most part were treated pretty humanly as far as I know but when the horses reach Mexico they are no longer considered animals but simply walking money. Also, now that the US Slaughter Plants have been shut down people are dumping horses into peoples front yards, dropping them off in the National Forest, Chaining them to trees and walking away, ect. It is not a pretty thing. I wish more people would remember the animals that built America. Without horses many of your ancestors wouldn't have lived which means YOU may not be here today, so in a backwards way you owe your life to these majestic animals.
