horse names
isn't always easy!

Horse names are harder to come up with than you might think. It can become a brain racking experience trying to come up with a name that fits.

Older horses or horses you bought later in their life, already have names. You may not like the name or maybe it just doesn’t suit the horse.

A new foal however, will need a name. He or she will most likely need a registered name and a barn name. Sometimes a name just seems to be a given, but sometimes it’s a well thought out process.

Trust me, I know. My horse had a colt about 6 months ago and it took me 3 months to come up with a name. After all that planning and thought, the moment I saw him, I called him the first thing that popped out of my mouth, and it stuck!! So my colt’s barn name turned out to be Weeman. All that planning and we call him Weeman. Funny huh? You know what they say about “The Best Laid Plans”.

Barn names are fun to come up with. I once met a lady, she called her horse Frog, because she said he jumped around so much. Sometimes it’s best to observe the horse for a couple of days and then choose a fitting name. Or maybe like me, call him the first thing that comes to mind.

Registered names for horses are often especially hard to come up with. In most registries now, you have to choose 5 or 6 different names in case of duplication. Trying to fit 2 or 3 names together, where they actually sound right, is an art in itself. I did however, think this one through, quite thoroughly, I might add. So Weeman’s registered name is Cactus Chiffe O’lena. Kind of a mixture of his closest relatives.
