Hay baling twine

by Mary T. Sharp
(Huntington, WV)

My farrier friend taught me a use for the baling twine that comes around hay bales. Use it like dental floss on your own teeth in the cleft at the back of the hoof to clean out debree in a space hard to get to with a hoof pick. The only drawback would be lack of space in some horse hooves.

I rescued Apache from a stock auction house and have spent the last year undoing all the damage done in the prior six years of his life.

The seller had actually water poisoned him with a bad pond in the area where he was kept as well as starved him not to mention the physical abuse. It has taken this year to get his hooves back to normal.

I also add Knoxx unflavored gelatin (1 packet per feeding a.m. and p.m.) and Horseshoers Secret(little expensive but worth it). If you can't get Knoxx most grocery stores carry a generic brand that works just as well.

He's now a big baby for the most part and follows me around the barn and corral. Riding him isn't important at this point, establishing basic trust, communication and respect is still in progress.
