Fly Masks

by Becky Interial
(Galva,IL)

I have problems with my horses rubbing their heads against stuff when wearing fly masks. I investigated the mask wondering if it was itchy. I discovered that it was indeed itchy, on areas that came in contact with the horse. I rubbed my hand along the inside of the mask and discovered that the type of thread used did feel like it was poking sharply in spots. I used cloth medical tape and taped over these itchy seams (I'm sure duck tape would work too). It has put an end to the rubbing but the tape gets dirty and doesn't stick after awhile so it needs to be reapplied. I was shocked to see just how itchy these masks are I don't blame them for trying to get it off! With horses comfort is the name of the game!
