Elizabeth Duff R.N.

by Elizabeth Duff
(Cheyenne, WY)

I live in the 'great state' of Wyoming. Our legislature has gone over the top. State Representative 'Slaughterhouse' Sue Wallis-R, founder of the United Organization of the Horse, has proposed the implementation of an equine slaughter house in Wyoming. I have written legislators in protest of this proposal. Their responses include, but are not limited to, 'ranchers have the right to do what they want with their property' or my opposition is based on emotion. Although some support humane transport, they feel as though HB503 is a rights violation. The proposed implementation of a horse slaughter house is born out of ignorance, cowardice, and greed. The ranchers think that the captive bolt method is humane and no different than 'putting a horse down' via gunshot. They do not want to pay a vet to euthanize. They don't want to have to kill their own horses. They want to make a profit from what is no longer useful to them.
I have my own horse. He is boarded in pasture adjacent to cattle pasture. If he should break through his fence, I expect him to become the property of some rancher. My horse is pure black with no distinguishing markings. Hmm, do you think I am worried?
