Cheap and Easy Horse Treats

by Cheryl Decker
(Indianapolis)

2 cups flour
3 cups sweet feed, whole oats, or quick oats
1 cup corn oil or vegetable oil
2 cups applesauce
2 whole carrots - grated
2 TBSP salt

Mix together in big bowl. Add warm water a little at a time as you mix (I mix with my hands). Add enough water to make a cookie dough consistency.

Flatten dough onto a cookie sheet sprayed with non stick spray. Bake at 350 for about 12 minutes. Cut into squares and lift from pan while warm.

My horses love these. I take them while trail riding or use when guests come over and want to feed the horses a treat.

Good Enough
by: Alli

I baked these treats and they turned out to be pretty good. I fed them to horses at a barn tour. I think there is too much salt. Also I think there should be 3 grated carrots.
