Arabian horses are noted for their spirit, intelligence and stamina. With the distinctive shape of their head, and high tail carriage, the Arabian is the most recognizable of all horse breeds. These horses were developed in a desert climate and were prized by the nomadic people. They were so prized, they were often brought inside the family tents to keep them from brutal desert climate. This close contact with humans, created a horse breed that is good-natured, quick to learn and willing to please.
This breed has very distinct features which include, large eyes, large nostrils, small muzzles, wedge shaped heads and a broad forehead. Another well known feature is the arched neck.
These horses have such good temperaments and dispositions that they are one of the few breeds that the Equestrian Federation allows children to show stallions in almost all show ring classes.
However, Arabians are considered to be a “hot-blooded” breed. This allows for quicker learning and a greater communication level with their rider. It also allows them to learn bad habits more quickly. So be careful what you’re teaching them.
The Arabian Horse Association only recognizes purebred horses with coat colors of bay, gray, chestnut, black and roan, although black is less common. There is one spotting pattern also recognized in Arabians. Sabino does exist in purebred Arabians, it produces white markings on the horses.
Arabians are considered to be very versatile, and can compete in many different equestrian events. They are highly prized in the sport of endurance riding, because of their stamina.
These are very beautiful and very proud horses. In my opinion, they are one of the most beautiful horse breeds.
